American Legion Post #158 in DeWitt hosts pork butt sale to fund kitchen remodel, revive community oyster supper

The American Legion Brown-Wright Post #158 in DeWitt is holding a pork butt sale. Post Vice Commander Perry Simpson said proceeds from the fundraiser benefit the American Legion Post at Camp Doughboy.

“We are raising funds to remodel our kitchen,” Simpson said. “We are remodeling it to get in better compliance with insurance.”

The kitchen remodel will allow American Legion members to bring back a beloved community event.

“We have put off the oyster supper for the past year or two. We are planning to get it going again this January. We are getting everything back up to snuff so we can do our oyster supper,” Simpson said.

Pork butt pickup is Wednesday, Nov. 22, at 5 p.m. in the old Alco Parking Lot on South Whitehead Drive in DeWitt. Pork butts are $40 each. Community members must purchase their tickets in advance.

“We are going to sell 90 tickets for pork butts. I have about 25 tickets left,” Simpson said.

The pork butt fundraiser is right before Thanksgiving to give local families a non-turkey option.

“They will be hot off the grill when you pick them up, too,” Simpson said.

Residents can contact Simpson and reserve a pork butt by calling 870-509-3262.
