When Liesel Kuhr and Kevin Eakin decided to remodel their 1950s Falls Church dwelling, it commenced with the strategy of introducing a dishwasher to the kitchen and ended with the addition of an whole second flooring.
“It was a lengthy and eventful system, but we are so glad that we did it when we did,” suggests Kuhr.
When they initially kicked all around the plan of a rework, the homeowners experienced a vision of how they needed to live in the dwelling, but not always what that would search like.

So the duo teamed up with Arlington-dependent structure-create organization TriVistaUSA to deliver their vision to existence.
“TriVista did a excellent job sticking with us as we explored the options,” Kuhr claims. “Making these visions arrive to existence was, of program, really hard work and whole of old-property surprises, but we had been lucky to have terrific associates in our builder.”
Starting with the Kitchen area
The transform started with the elimination of some dividing partitions on the initial floor. Upcoming, there was an outward growth where a screened-in porch applied to be. In point, the up-to-date kitchen now sits in that extremely location, a house that now opens into a breakfast nook and residing and dining home locations.
By opening the kitchen area region, the loved ones designed a area best for entertaining company and spending high-quality family time — equally of which had been incredibly essential to the home owners.
And while the remodel taken off the screened-in porch, the room’s authentic patio fire (including its exclusive brickwork) was kept intact and now serves as an indoor-outside fixture.
“This fire was distinctive, as it was created making use of a type of brick that is shorter and wider,” says TriVista lover Michael Sauri. “We definitely needed to help save that.”
Current kitchen cabinetry by Wynnbrooke Cabinetry, meanwhile, provides more of a softness to the home than its authentic 1950s style.
Gold accent pendant lights include nonetheless a different touch of allure to the kitchen, and it is difficult to seem at the space without having having note of its beautiful color — a deep, warm shade of teal termed Newburg Environmentally friendly.
“I love strolling into my kitchen and the fact that it now has a dishwasher,” claims Kuhr. “And our cupboard shade brings me peace and joy.”
“It’s a complete position to appear house and relax,” adds Sauri. “It just turned out incredible.”

2nd-Floor Addition
While the kitchen was the obvious star of the rework display, the challenge was always much even bigger than 1 room, Sauri notes.
TriVistaUSA worked with the few to build a new next-ground format for the dwelling, a place that now homes two supplemental bedrooms for their kids, a laundry home, a research nook, and a principal suite finish with his-and-hers walk-in closets.
These adjustments arrived in useful when the pandemic arrived, shortly immediately after the remodel was comprehensive.
“Having a few bedrooms upstairs enable us flip two of the downstairs bedrooms into offices when we went remote throughout the pandemic,” suggests Kuhr.
The next-ground addition also permitted the homeowners to convert the aged first-ground primary wing, which sits adjacent to the residing spot, into a committed exercise location for the little ones.
“Having an open up first floor has been astounding for our 1- and 5-year-old,” states Kuhr. “We’re using the new and aged spaces in our home otherwise than we originally prepared, but it is been a lifesaver to have all those choices.”
In the conclude, the architectural style and design approach, Kuhr provides, was a journey of discovery and possibility — and a good deal of enjoyable.
